Snow-Covered Sidewalks Blamed for Columbus School Closures

COLUMBUS (Ken Hines) -- Students of the state's largest district spent another school day at their homes due in large part to snow-covered sidewalks.

Columbus City Schools (CCS) officials closed the district's buildings for the third straight day on Friday in response to the winter storm that struck the area earlier in the week.

While snow and ice are still present on many Columbus roads, the conditions of the city's sidewalks were the major factors in administrators' decision to close CCS buildings on Friday.

The problem may worsen over the weekend, with another round of snow expected to fall in the area amid low temperatures that will prevent melting.

City officials are asking Columbus residents to shovel sidewalks in front of their homes to help prevent more school cancellations on Monday.
