Police: Man Admits to Dozens of Ross Co. Church Break-Ins

CHILLICOTHE (Ken Hines) -- A man has confessed to breaking into more than two dozen churches in Ross County, according to investigators.

Cash Yoakem allegedly admitted to breaking into the churches after he was identified as a suspect in a similar crime that occurred at a Laurelville car wash.

Yoakem and his wife, Heather Garrett-Yoakem, were arrested by Laurelville police on January 25 in connection with the car wash break-in. Both suspects were incarcerated in the Southeast Regional Jail in Nelsonville, where Cash allegedly told investigators he broke into several churches in Ross County over recent months.

After his confession, Yoakem, 26, led investigators on a tour of 25 churches, as well as 16 additional sites, where he participated in break-ins during the crime spree.

Yoakem is currently charged with 19 counts of breaking and entering. Investigators are visiting pawn shops and cash advance businesses in hopes of recovering some of the property stolen during the crime spree.
