Father Shares Experience with Son's Heroin Overdose Death to Save Others

MOUNT VERNON (Tara Morgan) -- A father shares his own experience with his son's heroin addiction and death to help others battling addiction.

Carl Culbertson fought addictions for nine years before he died Valentine's Day weekend in 2009.

"He was trying all sorts of things and then he locked into the heroin and it grabbed him," said Dave Culbertson, Carl's father.

Culbertson and his wife started Arms of an Angel Foundation not long after their son's death.

Dave Culbertson speaks to middle and high school students and church groups about how pier pressure led his son's battle and death.

"It's hard to believe it's been five years our lives are still not back together of course our whole family we struggle with it," said Culbertson.

Culbertson says he's glad to speak with parents about the signs they should look for if it helps one survive their addiction.
