Ohio Doctors See More Weather-Related Injuries

NORTH COLUMBUS (Jen French/Kate Liebers) -- The recent freeze has apparently caused some fractures. Central Ohio doctors said they have been seeing more patients for slips and falls.

Dr. Heather Healy at St. Annes Hospital in Westerville said she saw about 10 patients check in Wednesday for weather-related injuries.

"It's slippery, so people fall--whether they try to shovel, clean off their vehicle or get to work, Dr. Healy said. "You can get a lot of back strain. Of course, for anyone with any kind of heart problem, it's really dangerous."

Doctors advised people on the wrong side of gravity to first protect their heads. They say the most common injuries are to the patients' wrists and hands.
