ABC 6 Town Hall Meeting on Medicinal Marijuana Recapped
COLUMBUS (Adam Slinger) -- Tempers flared over the emotional issue of legalizing marijuana for medical purposes in the state of Ohio.
ABC6 held a Town Hall on Wednesday night at the Columbus Museum of Art. For about an hour, people fired off questions at the panelists.
Can you give me one person who has died from an overdose of marijuana? asked one listener.
It will affect our safety, said Marcie Seidel from the Drug-Free Action Alliance. It will affect our youth.
Seidel, along with Dr. Steve Matson from the American Society of Addiction Medicine, spoke in opposition to the measure.
Way more adolescence will start using weed, said Dr. Matson.
Matson and Seidel received the most questions from what appeared to be a room that consisted of, mainly, medical marijuana supporters.
Why are you picking on marijuana? asked another audience member. Its just a plant.
Two panelists spoke in support of the legalization of medical marijuana: Mike Revercomb from Ohio NORML and John Pardee from the Ohio Rights Group.
People need medication long term, said Revercomb. They cannot take synthetic medication long term. If someone takes synthetic medication for forty years, theyll be dead.
The full, one-hour, Town Hall is expected to be posted online on Thursday.
