Fire at Parking Garage Closes Downtown Road

COLUMBUS (Ken Hines) -- Authorities were forced to close a busy Downtown road on Thursday morning because of a fire in a parking garage.

Firefighters were sent to the garage at 100 N. Front St. at approximately 7 a.m. after dispatchers received a report of smoke coming from the structure. Upon their arrival, crews found a burning car parked on the fifth floor of the garage.

Police closed N. Front Street while firefighters extinguished the blaze -- an effort that was complicated by size constraints that prevented equipment from being transported into the garage.

Despite that obstacle, crews were able to quickly contain the fire. Front Street reopened in the area at approximately 8:15 a.m.

No one was hurt as a result of the fire.
