La Rue Braces for Flooding as Weather Warms
LA RUE, Ohio (Andrew Michael) -- The community of La Rue, Ohio is known for their flooding issues. One of their worst floods ever was just two months ago in December. With about 10 inches of snow on the ground, warm temperatures on the way later this week, and rain as well for later Thursday, flooding is a big concern for people in the small community.
The Scioto River, which runs through town, is currently completely frozen. The emergency management agency plans on meeting with the fire department Tuesday evening to go over a flood plan in case it needs to be utilized.
ABC 6/FOX 28 reached out to the river forecasting center for the area, they said they do not plan on the river to exceed flood levels based off of the melting snow and rain alone. They did say that there is a possibility of ice jams along the river which could back up the water and caused flooding. Ice jams like this are sporadic and cannot be predicted.
Well many in the community are keeping a very close eye on the forecast and river levels, the mayor asks the community to make sure that their storm drains are clear of ice and snow to properly drain any water later this week.
