Man Accused of Stealing Limo Driver's SUV and Hiding Evidence
DUBLIN (Jen French)Franklin County deputies have filed charges against a man who they believe stole a murdered limo drivers SUV and tried to hide shell castings. He told investigators he wasnt the one who fired the gun.
It was a ride that landed 41-year-old Brian Jones in jail. Franklin County detectives say 49-year-old Paul Devitts last stop was at the Hayden Heights Mobile Home Park in Dublin Tuesday evening, before someone fired several shots and killed him.
Neighbors like William Bell still have questions. The couple learned Devitts body was found under a truck.
Was he dropping somebody off or picking somebody up? Bell said.
Deputies have filed charges against Brian Jones for tampering with evidence and theft. Columbus Police officers found Jones and Devitts stolen SUV Friday morning at a West Columbus Hotel.
According to a Franklin County Sheriffs report, Jones admitted to picking up shell castings in the vehicle after Devitt was shot, but told deputies that he wasnt the one behind the trigger. Detectives havent released any details to ABC 6/FOX 28 about a possible second suspect, but think the shooting started as a robbery.
"I mean it's shocking. It's really shocking, Rhonda Bell said. Especially if he has a wife and a family."
Devitt leaves behind his Wife Wendy. She told ABC 6/FOX28 shes still processing the tragic turn of events.
"You don't realize how many people you know or lives you touched, Wendy Devitt said.
