Athens Co. Woman Dies After Contracting H1N1 Flu

ATHENS, Ohio (Brooks Jarosz) -- The flu has claimed the life of a woman from Athens County.

Dr. James Gaskell with the Athens City County Health Department says the 31-year-old woman contracted H1N1 and passed away at a hospital in Columbus.

Dr. Gaskell tells ABC6/FOX28 there is no major flu outbreak but does recommend you wash your hands frequently and  get a flu vaccine.

H1N1 does affect young adults and Dr. Gaskell says several positive flu tests have occurred in Athens County in recent weeks.

Dr. Gaskell says there have been six flu related deaths in Ohio this 2013-2014 flu season. He also says two children have died in the US from the flu this season.

So far, there has not been a resurgence of the Type B flu, however, Dr. Gaskell says it is still early in the flu season.
