Police Bust Prostitution Ring in West Columbus
COLUMBUS (Lisa Rantala) -- A private investigator from Texas said she came to Columbus on a case of a missing teen and helped police make several prostitution arrests.
Kelvin Clark, 52, and Robert Harrell, 65, both faced a judge Thursday on felony charges of promoting prostitution. Police arrested them Tuesday night near a home on Stevens Avenue, where the men allegedly pimped out a prostitute for hire.
Police targeted Clarks home on Stevens Avenue after private investigator Amber Cammack from Houston told them she had been inside the West Columbus house undercover.
Cammack told ABC 6/FOX 28 that she saw obvious signs that the men were trafficking underage girls.
"She got me into the house. I've never been so scared in my life," said Cammack, referring to a girl from the streets. "That's what I went in there as...trying to buy a girl."
Cammack said she witnessed women being beaten in front of her and people using crack cocaine. This week, she came back to work as an informant for police and said she wore a wire inside Clarks home. She said Clark agreed to bring her a young girl to a nearby hotel where undercover officers were waiting. On their way, police said they stopped Clark and Harrell, who had a known adult prostitute in their car, and then raided Clarks home.
Police haven't commented about their investigation at this point or about Cammacks help. She said she still hasnt found the teen shes looking for, but does believe she is in Columbus.
