ABC 6/FOX 28 Meteorologist Explains Atlanta Traffic Problem

COLUMBUS (Andrew Michael/Kate Liebers) -- The weather-related traffic problems in Atlanta this week generated a political firestorm.

On Tuesday, drivers were stranded for several hours -- some waited 24 hours -- after two inches of snow and ice blanketed the city. After being stuck on the buses until after midnight, some students in Atlanta spent the night at school.

Emergency crews responded to almost 800 vehicle accidents due to the storm.

Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal apparently tried to blame faulty forecast models, but took the statement back the next day.

"I did not mean to imply that we didn't know something was coming," he said.
