Ohio State Troopers Launch E-Citations

COLUMBUS (Lu Ann Stoia) -- The handwritten citations appear to be on their way out, as Ohio State Highway Patrol launched "e-citations."

Now, troopers can swipe a license and to instantly put the driver's personal information on the ticket.

The new method is expected to shave minutes off of traffic stops.

OSHP Lt. Craig Cvetan said it could also make stops safer for troopers. The computer is mounted high enough for officers to keep a suspect's vehicle in their peripheral vision.

The new equipment is to be installed in all OSHP cruisers within the next few months.
