Kids Left Alone in Car as Man Flees Reynoldsburg Police
REYNOLDSBURG (Rob Wells/Kate Liebers) -- A police foot chase with a suspect who left two young children alone in a running car.
The incident began when a man, believed to be a suspect in a forgery case, was recognized at the I-Force employment agency.
Police said when officers arrived to question 22-year-old Anthony Hobbs, he ran. Meanwhile, his nine-month-old son and one-year-old step-daughter sat outside in an unlocked parked car that was still running.
"It was cold outside for those babies," witness Danielle Smith said. "So on one hand I'm glad he left the car running, but it's scary to think that someone could have broken into the car in the process."
Investigators said they apprehended Hobbs after a short chase. They said they found the children when they checked Hobbs' car.
Reynoldsburg Lt. Ron Wright said leaving kids in the car "is not the brightest thing that you can do when you have kids."
"We have so many abductions in the United States every year and you have a child that can't fend for itself in a vehicle," Wright said.
Officers said Hobbs was held in jail, facing charges of obstructing justice and endangering children. He could face more charges in the forgery case.
