Thief Steals Car from Elderly Newspaper Delivery Man in S. Columbus

COLUMBUS (Ken Hines) -- Police are searching the city for a car that was stolen from an elderly man as he delivered newspapers on Friday morning.

An unidentified thief stole the 84-year-old victim's red 2006 Buick Lacrosse from the Certified Gas Station on Frank Road at approximately 5 a.m., according to police.

The victim claims the suspect approached him in the parking lot of the station and asked for money before jumping into the car and driving away.

The victim said he was dragged for a short distance before letting go of the vehicle, but was not seriously hurt. He was completing his newspaper delivery route when the crime occurred.

The stolen car has an Ohio license plate number of FJW-1563. Anyone with information about the crime is encouraged to contact the Columbus Division of Police at 614-645-4545.
