Armed Robbers Target Westerville Businesses

WESTERVILLE (Tom Bosco) -- Westerville police have been searching for two armed men accused of terrorizing businesses on State Street.

At least four businesses in a half-mile stretch were robbed by masked gunmen in the last two months.

One business was Yogi's Hoagies. Owner Sue Shields said the suspects held a gun to her head Tuesday afternoon and demanded the cash in the register as well as her purse.

"I was scared petrified," Shields said. "I was so petrified, I couldn't even talk to the person at 911."

Police said the other robberies, although in the same area, appear to be unrelated.

When a BP gas station was robbed, witnesses described a man in his 20s. When a Chipotle was robbed, witnessed described two suspects -- one of whom may have been a woman. An employee of another business was held up in the parking lot.

Officers have made no arrests in connection with these crimes.

Shields said she was shaken, but not discouraged.

"I'm a strong lady. I've survived a lot during my life," she said. "I can't let two young punks with a gun put me down."
