Cold Causes Power Outages in Northwest Columbus
NORTHWEST COLUMBUS -- The arctic blast caused power outages across Columbus, leaving some people without electricity or heat for days.
Residents at Olentangy Commons were among those affected. The company that serves them, Nationwide Energy Partners, said about 80 apartment homes were still without power on Wednesday.
Uncertain of how long the outage might last, customers sought hotel rooms or stayed with family.
Resident Joe Fabiano said this is not the first time he has gone without electricity.
"The transformer at a certain point will blow up, like an explosion," he said. "We hear it in the house, it will go poof, and we know our lights are out and it will be awhile."
Fabiano was one of the lucky few to get his power restored by Wednesday. He said he hopes the company can resolve these issues so he is not forced to vacate his home again.
A Nationwide Energy official said a fuse problem is to blame. He said all the power should be restored by Wednesday night.
