Alleged Dog Food Thief Drags Whitehall Officer Through Parking Lot

WHITEHALL (Terri Sullivan/Kate Liebers) -- The attempted theft of dog food sparked a violent chase, during which one officer was dragged across a parking lot.

The incident, which took place Saturday night at a Whitehall Walmart, was recorded on the store's security cameras.

The footage shows the suspect, identified as 33-year-old Linda Kay Koylu, refusing to leave her car when an off-duty Whitehall officer approached her.

The officer allegedly saw the woman leave without paying for two bags of dog food.

The officer had the suspect's door open when she began to back up. The vehicle backed into a parked car before going forward, dragging the officer's body the whole time.

The chase ended on Broad Street, near the Town and Country Shopping Center, when the driver slammed into a utility pole. She tried to flee officers on foot, but was tackled after she tripped, police said.

Koylu was already out on bond, charged with six counts of robbery in an unrelated case from August.

Police said the car she was driving Saturday night was stolen.
