Columbia Gas: Polar Vortex Bumped Heating Bills

COLUMBUS (Andrew Michael) -- Columbia Gas Co. officials said customers can expect to see an increase on energy bills of about $6 because of the polar vortex two weeks ago.

With more cold temperatures on the way later this week, Columbia Gas reminded customers that they do offer a home energy audit. They can assess what areas of the house need to be addressed for better heating efficiency.

Having a programmable thermostat is the first step. Another tip was to make sure no snow or ice is blocking the appliance vents outside, as it will cause the appliances to run less efficiently.

Officials said that a few 40- or 50-degree days this month could help offset the polar vortex.

So far, the temperatures this month are only 2.5 degrees below average.
