Police: Suicidal Driver Slams into Short North Home

COLUMBUS (Ken Hines) -- A man was taken to a central Ohio hospital for observation after allegedly trying to commit suicide by driving his car into a home in the Italian Village area, according to police.

The driver -- who has not been identified by police -- slammed into the home at 1100 Say Ave. at approximately 10 a.m., knocking a large hole in the side of the structure, and causing several bricks to fall on to the vehicle.

Police believe the 20-year-old driver was suicidal at the time of the crash, and intentionally drove the car into the home. The driver does not live inside the damaged house.

The driver suffered a bloody nose and chest pains as a result of the deployment of the car's airbag. He was transported to an undisclosed hospital in Columbus for observational purposes.

The owners of the home were at work when the crash occurred, and were quickly contacted by police.
