ABC 6 INVESTIGATORS: Ohio Attorney General's Office Sues Contractor

COLUMBUS (Tom Sussi) -- ABC 6 Investigators received new information on a story the team broke last summer.

The Ohio State Attorney General's Office sued Westerville Contractor Michael Evilsizer and his company Buckeye Exteriors. The suit charges that Evilsizer collected hefty down payments for home improvement jobs he either didn't start or finish. The attorney general's office is also seeking restitution for the victims.

ABC 6 Investigators first exposed this crooked contractor last August. At that time, Central Ohio Better Business Bureau issued a Consumer Alert. BBB told ABC 6 Investigators that Evilsizer stiffed six of his customers for more than $22,000.

Records filed with Ohio Secretary of State show that Evilsizer started Buckeye Exteriors December 2010. Court records show Evilsizer has been sued, evicted and, last October, pleaded guilty to unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

For those considering hiring a contractor, the state attorney general's office advised the following:
  • Get written estimates from several contractors.
  • Be wary of contractors who require large down payments.
  • Do your homework. Check companies out with Better Business Bureau, ask companies for references and make sure the business is licensed.
