Big Ten Championship Ring Stolen from Daughter of Fred Taylor
POWELL (Tara Morgan) -- An unusual jewelry theft has the daughter of Hall of Fame OSU basketball coach pleading for your help.
Powell police are investigating the theft of $20,000 to $30,000 in jewelry from Sharla Peponis' house including the 1968 Big Ten Championship ring that belonged to her father, OSU basketball legend Fred Taylor.
"I cried initially then I was so confused as to why and now I am just really really angry," said Peponis.
Powell Police Detective Ryan Pentz says it's such a unique piece of jewelry that whoever took it is bound to show it off.
He's keeping a close eye on Craigslist, Ebay and at pawn shops for the ring.
"It's tugged at me a little bit knowing that Coach Taylor passed away knowing this ring was handed down," said Det. Pentz.
Det. Pentz says he's also made other central Ohio police departments aware of the stolen ring.
