Still Fans of Gee, Students Welcome New Ohio State President
OHIO STATE CAMPUS (Tara Morgan/Kate Liebers) -- Ohio State University students seemed excited overall, but also a little saddened at the start of a new era.
Students said they really connected with former president Gordon Gee and hope to have that same relationship with Michael Drake, who was appointed the new university president on Thursday.
Student Jasmine Jackson illustrated how significant an impression Gee left on campus. She said when she thinks about "The" Ohio State, only one person comes to mind.
"The first man you think of, you think of Gordon Gee," she said.
"I've been here four years and I've talked to him, met him, had conversations, got coffee or whatever," Jackson said. "It's just kind of bittersweet."
The Ohio Union is buzzing about Gee's replacement, the former chancellor at the University of California.
Junior Erwin Letellier said with Gee as his predecessor, Drake has big shoes to fill.
"I'm just glad that we have somebody who hopefully can set a good example for the university and can hopefully get on par with, you know, the great person that Gordon Gee was," Letellier said.
Students told ABC 6/FOX 28 they were excited to see the direction Drake will take the university.
