Good Samaritans Rescue Three Dogs Left in the Cold

PERRY COUNTY (Tara Morgan) -- Good samaritans step up to save three dogs left in the bitter cold.

Jessica Guisinger called ABC6/FOX28 after she says she and her mom  cut loose one of the dogs chained up outside a home on Harrison Street in New Straitsville.

The chain was embedded in the dog's neck.

Guisinger says she hadn't seen the owners in days and gave the dogs food, water and straw for warmth.

But couldn't stand to see them outside any longer.

"I'm just glad they're going to homes getting warm and getting fed," said Guisinger.

Several people showed up to help including Rhonda Ferguson who says she takes in dogs in need.

"If they wanted the dog they should have taken care of it," said Ferguson.

As Ferguson loaded up the dogs onto her truck, Lori Gaitten with Friends of The Shelter Dogs in Athens showed up.

"There are animal cruelty laws and this is unacceptable," said Gaitten.

Gaitten says two of the dogs are receiving medical attention at Abfall Animal Clinic in The Plains, Ohio.

One needed surgery to remove the chain.

The Perry County Humane Society is now investigating.

If you'd like to help with veterinary expenses, donations are being accepted at Abfall Animal Clinic.  Call 740-797-3344.
