Mt. Vernon Baby Burned, Father Demands Answers

MT. VERNON (Tom Bosco) -- Confusion surrounded a case in which a five-month-old boy suffered severe burns.

Hunter Hammons suffered second- and third-degree burns on his arm and leg on Friday, Mt. Vernon investigators said. The child had to undergo two surgeries at Nationwide Children's Hospital and risked losing his leg.

Hammons father has been demanding answers regarding how his son was burned. On Monday, Mt. Vernon police said they are still investigating and detectives were not available to comment.

Neighbor Erica Davis said the mother came downstairs and told her Hunter had been burned.

"She was all shook up," Davis said. "She looked like she had been crying."

The mother lives with her boyfriend, who is not the boy's father. The father is in the military and rushed home to be with his son during his recovery.

Police said no one has been arrested or charged.
