Frozen Pipes Keep Plumbers Busy

COLUMBUS -- The freezing temperatures kept plumbers busy Friday.

Those in the industry said their business jumps 25 percent in winter thanks to frozen and busted pipes.

They offered a word to the wise homeowner: Make sure the water hose outside is drained.

Un-drained hoses and ones that are still attached to the house are just a few of the many problems plumbers said they witness during cold weather.

"People don't really realize how much plumbing can be affected by weather conditions in general," said Aaron Gaynor, owner of Eco Plumbers.

Michael Guye experienced similar problems Friday, when no cold water came out of the showerhead.
The problem was a frozen kitchen pipe, which plumbing crews thawed with a heat gun.

Gaynor said Guye was lucky the water lines didn't freeze and split, which would have caused flooding. He said that problem is fairly common.
