Suspected Thieves Arrested after Mistake Caught On Camera

DELAWARE COUNTY (Tara Morgan) -- Two men have been arrested after a rash of car break ins during the month of January.

According to a search warrant, Andrew Johnson and Michael Shanahan were seen on surveillance video trying to use a credit card stolen from the Scioto Reserve neighborhood.

The warrant states two days later, they were caught on camera rummaging through a car parked in Nathan Malone's driveway.

Malone has a high tech security system with infrared cameras on his house.

Malone says he woke up last Saturday morning to an email alert about the crime.

"It's often after the fact that you wish you'd done something different rarely it happens you had forethought and got them into place," said Malone.

Malone says the crooks parked their car in the view of his camera which helped police catch the two.

"That was actually as what I understood it what tipped them off they knew what to look for," said Malone.

According to the warrant, Johnson admitted he and Shanahan were stealing from cars in the Scioto Reserve neighborhood.
