Rush for Gym Memberships After New Year's

COLUMBUS (Ben Garbarek) -- Many people are saying 2014 is the year they're going to whip themselves into shape.  Local gyms are packed with people this week trying to make good on their promises.

Athletic trainers at Capital Fitness in Downtown Columbus said January is the busiest time of the year at their gym. 

"Typically they come in, inquiring about a membership, New Years resolution," said trainer Jason Cox.  "That's probably the most common New Year's resolution is to lose weight."

While January is busy, February often can be a little quieter.

"Some people are in here a few weeks, a month and they drop off," Cox said.  "Then you get some people that are more serious about it."

Whether or not you have what it takes to keep your resolution, you won't lose weight unless you show up.

"Just getting in here is half the battle," he said.
