Columbus Offers Drinkers Safe Driving Options

COLUMBUS -- Taxis will be in high demand after the ball drops, but imbibers have other safe travel options this New Year's Eve.

COTA's "night owl" buses are to run up and down High Street all night, and rides are free after midnight.

"It is a great way to get to Clintonville or German Village and anywhere in between," said Lisa Knapp of COTA.

For a faster, more stylish ride travelers can use Uber -- a new service that drops customers at their front door in a Lincoln town car. Cars can be hailed through the Uber app.

Taxis will also be available for what representatives have said is their busiest time of year.

"It's a challenge because of the volume of calls that will come in," said Charlie Evranian of Yellow Cab of Columbus.

The cost for city cabs is around $3 to take a seat and about $2 per mile.

Evranian said all Yellow Cabs accept plastic as well as cash payments.
