Dozens Remember Westerville South H.S. Athlete at Vigil

WESTERVILLE (Tara Morgan) -- Heavy hearts as a huge crowd remembers a high school athlete who died after collapsing during basketball practice.

A candle light vigil was held Thursday night for 17 year old Christopher Randolph.

Randolph died in the emergency room at St. Ann's hospital.

He collapsed after basketball practice Wednesday night at Westerville South High School.

His uncle traveled from Maryland to be comfort Randolph's mother who fainted moments before the vigil.

He says Randolph loved basketball and had a clean bill of health.

"He was so excited when he made the team finally made the team he called me said uncle I've been trying trying trying finally I made the team," said Demba Mansaray, Randolph's uncle.

Randolph's friends and teammates say won't be the same without him.

"He was the funniest dude I knew probably and he was just a good person overall and I loved playing basketball with him yeah," said Junaid Gibson, Randolph's friend and teammate.

The coroner is expected to release autopsy results Friday.
