Dog Mauls Lithopolis Boy
LITHOPOLIS (Tom Bosco/Kate Liebers) -- A dog attack sent a 10-year-old boy to the hospital last week with "horrifying" injuries, according to the boy's father.
Vincent Contino had to have his eyelid reattached after being mauled by a boxer. He also suffered a leg injury after the dog reportedly bit him to the bone.
Additionally surprising for the victim's father, Joseph Contino, was that the dog was familiar with Vincent prior to the attack.
Contino said the dog belonged to Vincent's friend, whom Vincent would visit nearly every day.
Even after police arrived, officers said the dog was "unusually vicious."
The reports say the animal kept charging the door and slamming into it.
Vincent reportedly ran to the library after the attack.
"He hasn't cried," Contino said. "He calmly walked up to the librarian and said, 'Can you call my mom at the coffee shop.' It's unbelievable."
The Fairfield County Dog Warden declared the dog vicious. The owner was ordered to keep the pet quarantined for 10 days to see if it is rabid.
The owner has said he is going to euthanize the dog. He will likely face charges for not having the dog properly licensed.
Vincent is expected to return to school in January.
