Police Investigate Fatal Stabbing at NE Columbus Home

COLUMBUS (Ken Hines) -- Police are interviewing witnesses to a fatal stabbing in order to determine if a man was acting in self-defense when he killed his roommate inside a Northeast Side home.

Officers found the body of a victim at 1701 E. Weber Road at approximately 1:45 a.m. Tuesday while investigating a report of an argument inside the home. The victim died from a stab wound to the upper body, according to police.

The suspect waited inside the home for police to arrive, and was then taken into custody. He has not been charged with any crimes related to his roommate's death.

The suspect admitted to police that he stabbed the victim, but claimed he did so to protect himself during the altercation. Investigators have not publicly identified either man.

Police have identified potential witnesses, including at least four additional people believed to have been inside the home when the victim was killed. Investigators are conducting interviews to shed light on the events that preceded the stabbing.

Officers are waiting for the issuance of a search warrant before examining evidence inside the home where the victim was killed.
