Columbus School Bus Driver Resigns After OVI Arrest

COLUMBUS (Ken Hines) -- A Columbus City Schools driver has resigned amid charges she was driving drunk with children on-board her bus.

Tia Denton sent a letter of resignation to district officials on Wednesday, more than a week after police stopped her bus in South Columbus, where they found two students and an open container of alcohol on-board. Witnesses told police Dia was driving erratically before she was stopped.

Denton had worked for Columbus City Schools less than a year at the time of her arrest. District officials placed her on administrative leave while deciding the fate of her employment -- a process that came to an abrupt end with Wednesday's resignation.

Denton, 51, faces criminal charges of OVI, child endangering, and driving with an open container. She is scheduled to be arraigned in Columbus on December 9.
