Teen Fearing Sawmill Speeding Ticket Leads Officers on Chase

COLUMBUS -- A teen who apparently fled police to avoid his mother's wrath faced a judge Friday.

Dharsan Baskarana, 19, was charged in connection to a Thursday morning chase.

Police said they first spotted the teen traveling 65 miles per hour in a 35-mile-per-hour zone on Sawmill Road.

The teen allegedly tried to lose the officers by erratically through the Meijer parking lot. The chase ended on Martin Road, where the teen reportedly lost control and crashed into a mailbox.

Officers said the teen told them he ran from police because he feared his mother's reaction if he got a speeding ticket. He allegedly said he was speeding because he was late for work.

Baskarana was released on bail.
