Retirement Village in La Rue Evacuated Due to Flooding

LA RUE (Jen French) - Flooding has forced a retirement village and several homeowners to evacuate in La Rue Sunday morning.

The fire department expects water levels to rise throughout most of Sunday.

Crews tell ABC 6/FOX 28 that six to eight people were rescued from Kiwanis Retirement village on N Section Road after 7 a.m. A few had to be rescued by raft. Others left their homes on their own and waded through water.

Fire crews went door to door in flooded areas, recommending people leave their homes.

State Route 95 from La Rue to Marion is closed as well as State Route 37 coming from Richwood. State Route 203 north of SR 4 is also closed.

Several streets in the city of La Rue are blocked until waters recede.
