Dublin Police Start New Unit to Focus on Burglaries, Thefts and Speeders

DUBLIN (Tara Morgan) -- A new police unit is launched to help curb burglaries, thefts from cars and take on speeders in neighborhoods.

Dublin police added a Community Impact Unit to the force.

It has two investigators, a K9 officer and four traffic officers.

The chief says it's what the community wants.

"Thefts from vehicles is a big problem burglaries is a big problem and we really found we needed to have some officers that were available that could give extended time to investigations allow time for surveillance," said Dublin Police Chief Heinz von Eckartsberg.

The traffic officers will take on speed complaints and crash trends.
