Fire Fighters Rescue Residents from Burning E. Columbus Apartments

COLUMBUS (Ken Hines) -- Fire fighters rescued four people and evacuated dozens of units early Friday morning as they battled a blaze at an East Side apartment complex.

Fire fighters climbed ladders to save those trapped on the second floors of some of the upper-level apartments at the Courtside Drive complex. Two young children were safely dropped from those apartments into the waiting arms of emergency responders.

The flames were first reported at approximately 4:30 a.m., and reached six apartments before a firewall halted their spread.

Displaced residents boarded a COTA bus to keep warm, and will be assisted by Red Cross volunteers.

No serious injuries related to the fire have been reported. Investigators have not determined the cause of the blaze.
