Officer on Leave after Accidentally Shooting, Killing Woman During Drug Raid

COLUMBUS (Ken Hines/Kate Liebers) -- The sergeant who accidentally shot and killed a Ross County woman during a Wednesday drug raid has been put on administrative leave.

Krystal Barrows died Friday, two days after she was shot by a deputy who entered the trailer to bust an alleged drug operation. Barrows's death was likely the result of an accidental gunshot, according to a Ross County prosecutor.

The Ross County Sheriff's Office announced hours later that the officer who shot the woman, Sgt. Brett McKnight, was placed on administrative leave.

McKnight has been with RCSO for 11 years and is a member of the Emergency Response Team.

Barrows, 34, was one of 11 people -- including one child -- inside the home when the raid occurred. Deputies found heroin, several guns, and a large amount of cash inside the trailer, according to investigators.

The child is currently under the care of family members.
