Former Columbus Cop Pleads Guilty to Child Porn Charge
COLUMBUS (Rob Wells/Kate Liebers) -- A former police officer has pleaded guilty to a child pornography charge, and now awaits sentencing for his crime.
Stewart Miller pleaded guilty to a federal charge of receipt of child pornography Tuesday in a Columbus courtroom.
Under the plea agreement, the veteran freeway patrol officer faces up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
Investigators said they were tipped off over the summer, when Miller's wife, Julie Bowen Miller, told the FBI she had discovered thousands of images and videos of child porn.
She also found several hidden cameras in the couple's home, according to court documents. The defendant admitted that he used those cameras to secretly tape minors he knew were engaging in sexual acts.
"He understands that he is going to prison," defense attorney Mark Collins said. "He's disappointed that he was a law enforcement officer and let down his fellow officers."
Miller was released on his own recognizance. He was ordered to wear an electronic ankle monitoring device and forbidden to use electronic gadgets.
His sentencing was slated for February or March.
