W. Columbus Standoff Ends in Arrests; Robbery Investigation Continues
COLUMBUS (Ken Hines) -- Police are searching for at least one person suspected of involvement in an armed robbery that touched off an hours-long standoff at a West Side home.
SWAT officers used tear gas Monday morning to gain entry to a home near the intersection of S. Central Ave. and Rich St. in order to arrest a suspect accused of robbing a victim behind a nearby bar the previous night.
Investigators believe the suspect fled to the home after the robbery, and along with at least two additional occupants, refused to exit the house when ordered to do so by police.
SWAT officers physically removed the robbery suspect from the home following the release of the tear gas, ending the standoff after approximately four hours.
Two women who remained inside the home during the standoff were arrested on misdemeanor charges unrelated to the robbery.
Police believe the robbery suspect was aided in that crime by up to two accomplices who remain at large.
Police have yet to release any names in connection with the robbery and subsequent standoff.
