Man Survives Orient Home Explosion

ORIENT (Adam Slinger) -- Scioto Township firefighters plan to return to the scene of a house explosion on Friday morning to try and determine a cause.

Around 4 p.m. on Thursday, a three bedroom log cabin off Welch road exploded without any warning.

"I'm fine," said the homeowner, Mark Terry, "just a little shook up."

Terry told ABC6/FOX28 that he had just returned home, flipped on the furnace and then stepped outside. Moments later, the house blew up.

"I was in the barn working on my bike rack," he said. "I originally thought the barn was caving in on me."

The house uses propane as its heat source and investigators are looking into the possibility of propane being the cause. Another possibility would be some sort of electrical failure.

Terry said he didn't smell any propane before the the explosion and no fire followed.

The local fire chief said he believes whatever the cause, it appears to be accidental, nothing indicates foul-play.
