Storms Damage Pickaway County Homes

COLUMBUS (Mike McCarthy) -- The National Weather Service surveyed the worst damage from the latest powerful storm to burst through central Ohio Monday.

Although the service report reported straight winds, the damage had some people in Pickaway Country convinced a tornado touched down there.

Very little is left of some buildings in Ashville. In one area, a roof collapsed onto several pick-up trucks, a trailer and a camp. The roof landed in the yard and parts of the building shot through the house.

Down the street, an oak tree landed on a house. The branches punched holes through the roof into several bedrooms.

Sandy Dowdy, who lived there, said she was lucky she happened to be cleaning the basement -- probably the safest place in that house she could have been -- when the winds ripped through her neighborhood.

In Hebron and Licking County, the damage is not nearly as extensive. While many residents experienced power outages, no homes were reportedly damaged in Licking County.

No one was reported injured.
