Big Lots Workers Build Tables for Central Ohioans in Need
COLUMBUS (Ken Hines/Ashley Yore) -- Nearly 200 Big Lots employees put their carpentry skills to good use Thursday by joining together to build dining tables for central Ohioans in need -- just in time for Thanksgiving.
The workers participated in a building project organized by the Furniture Bank of Central Ohio. The Big Lots team planned to construct 250 tables by the time they dropped their tools at 5 p.m. Thursday.
If the goal is reached, it would constitute the largest one day build in the bank's 15 year history.
"Imagine if you're one of these families that doesn't have a kitchen table to sit around. There's no place to share your meal, said Jeremy Ball of Big Lots.
Volunteers also plan to collect table settings and decorations to distribute to needy central Ohioans as they prepare for the upcoming holiday.
Your family comes over, it's a tradition that you gather together around a table to share food," Ball said. "That's what we often identify with for Thanksgiving, so it's a time to be thankful."
The participating Big Lots employees worked in three shifts during the Thursday build.
