'Tattoo-Gate' Ring For Sale on eBay
COLUMBUS (Chris Vanocur/Kate Liebers) -- Terrelle Pryor's 2008 Big Ten Championship ring is now on eBay.
More than a Buckeye football memento, this ring is a product of the controversial exchange that cost former coach Jim Tressel his job and scarred Ohio State University in 2011.
In what became known as "Tattoo-Gate," Pryor and other players had violated NCAA rules by trading their memorabilia, including championship rings, with the owner of a tattoo shop.
The seller -- who is asking $16,499 for the ring -- makes this clear in the item's subtitle: "100 percent authentic from OSU Tattoo-Gate tattoo scandal."
The item is scheduled to expire Dec. 6. Nearly 200 people have marked it on their watch list and more than 20 other offers have been made.
The item did not seem to impress the students ABC 6/FOX 28 interviewed on campus, however. One student said seeing the ring for sale made him sad, while others cited the price tag as the main deterrent.
For those looking for a less authentic but more affordable option, other eBay sellers have offered a variety of knockoffs for about $40.
