Man Arrested after Alleged Accomplice Killed in Hit-and-Run

BLOOM TOWNSHIP, Ohio (Tom Bosco/Kate Liebers) -- An alleged accomplice to the pedestrian killed on Fairfield County Road was arrested Wednesday evening.

Fairfield County Sheriff's Office alleged that 22-year-old Tyler Paul had been breaking into cars with 24-year-old Josh Barnes prior to the hit-and-run crash that killed Barnes.

The crash happened around 6 a.m. on Lithopolis Road. Emergency workers pronounced Barnes dead at the scene.

Paul helped police identify the vehicle suspected to be involved in the crash. After questioning, Paul was arrested for theft as well as breaking and entering.

Authorities believe a white Jeep Grand Cherokee found at the Gap warehouse in Groveport was involved in the fatal crash.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol obtained a search warrant to look at the vehicle, which had front-end damage, but charges have not yet been filed against the driver.

OSHP is continuing the investigation about the fatal accident.
