DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY: McDonald's Dollar Menu
COLUMBUS (John Matarese) -- McDonald's restaurants have begun rolling out a new value menu, which offers fewer items for a buck.
The new name is "Dollar Menu and More," with emphasis now on the "more."
The McDouble as well as a small order of fries now cost 19 cents over a dollar; a double cheeseburger now costs $1.49.
The menu still offers several items for a dollar, such as a McChicken, a new bacon burger, an ice cream cone, and large sweet tea.
And the basic cheeseburger remains 89 cents at many restaurants (though it is not listed on the Dollar Menu).
But "Burger Business" magazine states that while exact prices vary by market, customers now have to look harder to find the dollar items.
The $1 items are sandwiched between $1.19 and $1.49 items, so customers could easily miss the price revisions to popular items.
"Burger Business" also suggests some prices are surprisingly high for a value menu.
For example, a bacon McDouble is $2 and a 20-piece McNugget meal is $5.
CNN/Money says McDonald's desperately needs to boost revenues. It added that too many people buy only from the dollar items, which doesn't bring in any profit.
With overhead, employee pay, and health care costs on the rise, fast food restaurants have to pass along the costs at some point.
So don't be surprised to find other restaurants following McDonald's lead, so you don't waste your money.
