Crews Set to Demolish Old Upper Arlington Home

UPPER ARLINGTON (Ken Hines) -- A home that has stood for nearly two centuries will be relocated to the backs of dump trucks on Wednesday when a controversial demolition project gets underway in central Ohio.

Crews are expected to begin tearing down the Hutchinson House on Riverside Drive in Upper Arlington at 11:30 a.m. to make way for a new apartment complex.

Members of the Upper Arlington Historical Society tried in vain to save the home -- which was built in 1821 by a Revolutionary War veteran -- but will be forced to settle for the preservation of the house's stones for possible reconstruction at another location.

The stones that make up the home's 18 inch-thick walls will be kept at a storage facility on Roberts Road until their fate is decided.
