BREAKING: Girl Dies After Being Attacked by Mom's Boyfriend
COLUMBUS (Ben Garbarek) -- Police say a four-year-old girl, who was allegedly assaulted by her mother's boyfriend, died of her injuries at Nationwide Children's Hospital Thursday night.
Police received a 911 call from the couples apartment on Caleb Drive just before 6 p.m. Wednesday after neighbors say the mother returned home from work. The mother is heard telling dispatchers that she could not wake her daughter up.
She will not wake up, the mother said. I even ran -- I put a cold rag on her head to see if that would like, you know, that would help wake her up. I ran cold water in the bath tub and kind of sit her down in the bath tub. That didn't wake her up. Nothing. "
Earlier that day, neighbors said they heard the 4-year-old child crying through the wall and also heard the mothers boyfriend Michael McDaniel yelling at the girl while she was at work.
"I heard him hit somethingmaybe the wall...I don't know," said a neighbor who did not want to be identified.
Police say injuries were visible on the child when paramedics rushed her to Nationwide Childrens Hospital. A neighbor had said she had seen the child being lifted into the ambulance and could tell the child had been hit in the face.
McDaniel was charged with felonious assault and will face a judge Friday morning. He faces additional charges once an autopsy is completed, according to police. Hes been convicted of robbery, burglary and drug offenses in his past.
Children Services is also investigating the case. The agency says its never been called on this family before and the mothers old son is staying with other family.
