Newark Police Warn of Rise in Break-Ins

NEWARK (Maria Durant/Kate Liebers) The break-ins are so widespread, Newark police have said no neighborhood is immune.

Within the last 90 days, more than 200 car break-ins have been reported the most Newark Police Department has seen in such a short amount of time.
The criminals are taking advantage of open garage doors, officers said.

These incidences have risen 30 percent since this same time last year, according to Newark Police Department reports.

I couldn't believe how many more we are having in that one year period, Newark Sgt. Paul Davis said.

Investigators said the thieves are primarily taking tools, and spend only about a minute or two on the property.

Davis urged people to keep their car doors and garages locked.
