Veterans Prepare for Gov't Shutdown Impact
COLUMBUS (Adam Slinger) -- Nearly four million veterans will not receive their disability checks next month if the partial government shutdown continues, said Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki.
Shinseki spoke to members of Congress on Wednesday and shocked military families across the country,
"This is going to cause a lot of problems," said Michael Wade, a veteran of the 2003 war in Iraq, who now lives in Canal Winchester.
Wade told ABC6/FOX28 that the disability checks make up about 80% of his income.
"I'm a father of three. I have full custody. So, when I don't get paid, they have to suffer, as well."
Wade said he was frustrated by the failures in Washington, and he doesn't expect the shutdown to end by November 1, the day the checks are supposed to be distributed.
"I feel like everyone's pointing fingers at the other party, instead of someone stepping up and taking responsibility."
