Schneider Electric Issues Recall of Surge Protectors
COLUMBUS (Ken Hines) -- An electronics company has issued a recall of surge protectors due to a risk of fire.
Schneider Electric is recalling APC 7 and 8 series SurgeArrest surge protectors (manufactured before 2003) after receiving more than 700 reports of overheating incidents involving the devices, some of which led to fires.
The surge protectors have been linked to 13 injuries, and more than a million dollars in property damage from fires.
The devices were sold at several stores across the country, including Best Buy, Circuit City, and CompUSA, from January, 1993 to December, 2002.
Anyone who currently uses the affected surge protectors is advised to unplug the devices and contact Schneider Electric in order to receive a free replacement.
